Just use a AA battery to determine polarity ie: fan direction.

Hi Dan
The last time I wrote you said it could be a bad cell in the hard drive of my MS 300. My computer friend says that could be true, but thinks it might be over heating. With all this talk about changing fans. I ask is anybody running hot. Plan to upgrade the drive to the 750 drive and I guess I'll be changing the fan. One More question. Will I be Able to upgrade my signature to a MS 750????

The challenge for me was figuring out the wiring, I knew to face the label out. I just didn't know what wires to connect from the new fan to the black and red wires. I still don't know if I got it right as I don't know how to force the fan to come on....

Mike.......Disconnect the fan wires from the black and red wires, then use a 9 volt battery to test the fan. Pay attention to the polarity markings on the battery. When the fan is rotating so that it is exhausting air out the back of the MS750, the wire on the positive terminal of the battery will be your red wire, and the wire on the negative terminal of the battery will be your black wire. Now reconnect the fan wires to the red and black power wires and your fan will be correctly installed.

Thank you! I apologize for being thick headed. I had previously tried the AA battery but that did not make the fan spin. I will give it a try with the 9 volt. This was the totally obvious step that I didn't do previously. I appreciate the support!
