Thanks to each of you for the warm welcome. Here are some pics of the system that reflect the current equipment, if not the physical layout. There is far too much equipment in this room, and these pics don't show the 1/2 of it.
I'll make a separate post to describe the system in greater detail, but the racks have nothing to do with the hi-fi, they support the video system, which is also crammed into the same room.

Hi Bill, glad to have you aboard. It's good to have another New Yorker. I was under the impression that people with 10000 LPs count them in linear feet of shelf space rather than absolute numbers!

Older than you (probably) and a vinyl junkie too. Still have many of my 'teen-ager' records.

Although I've lost my high frequency hearing too, I do play digital often just for the convenience, and I've learned to like it. (but I do prefer vinyl).

Bill, we are so glad that you have found us and joined us on AA. Please post some of the music you listen to (especially the "old stuff") in the "What are you listening to" threads.

Thank you all! Just posted one selection in the 'what are you spinning' and i'll try to post more as time goes on. I do have a funny story about sonics though. Through a friend, I had dinner with Phil Ramone a few years ago, and told him that Casino Royale and Dusty's rendition of "look" had been elevated to 'Best Recording Ever Made' status by one audio journalist a while back, and there were books (the Wood Effect, re absolute phase) and articles about the 'secret' to the sound. Ramone looked at me like I was ridiculous. He apparently fiddles around in sessions in a very nonchalant way, looking like he isn't doing anything very deliberate.
Al Schmidt is another one- killer records, decade after decade.
I just wish Norah Jones was more interesting to listen to.
