1 win away from first Super Bowl.
Not sure KC creamed the Bills but I think Buffalo would have given GB a better battle in the SB.......

31-6, yeah, that was a woopin'

anyways, Pugula family to be new owners of the Bills

oh………FWIW, technically the first 'Super Bowl' was Jets / Colts, the first two were 'just' World Championship of professional football

Wasn't that name Lamar Hunt's idea? That's what I remember, anyway. As for the Raiders/Jets game, the Jets let the Raiders hang around. Too many mistakes.

I believe you're correct, something to do with his kids playing with one of those 'super balls' back in the day.

The more I think about it the 'Super Bowl' name became official in the fourth game, since the two leagues had merged by then.

Good call on the originla "Super Bowl" naming.
However it is now referred to as Super Bowl One

So it is Super Bowl #1.............

I bought a Super Bowl boxed set last year, which has game and season highlights from SB 1 (Chiefs/Packers) up to 46 (Patriots/Giants). In that set the first two are indeed referred to as Super Bowl I and II respectively. The first Super Bowl of the merger was Colts/Cowboys (SB 5).

Ok, so I did a little digging (my memory isn't as good as it used to be) and as we sit here in 2014 all the games, even back to the first are referred to as 'Super Bowls' but in actuality at the time the first two games were known as the NFL / AFL Championship Game. The name 'Super Bowl' did indeed become official with the third game.

Right, even though both leagues had agreed to merge in 1966 they continued to play separate until the '70 season when they became conferences. With the Colts moving to the AFC they got their first Super Bowl win.
