JLA Dominion. Wanted an 8" so bass would keep up with the very fast Magnepan sound, but the 10" was on sale for a great price (couple of $100 less than the 8"). Thus far I'm very favorably impressed and it is really doing a great job with the 1.7i without my doing any optimization of location, etc., while breaking-in. Just set it at 80hz (everything else set at its null-point) and pointed it in the right direction. Haven't even bothered to try it without the grill. I think the extra few hz it is rated at below the 8" is worthwhile. I was wondering if ICs and power cord make a difference with a sub, but have a pair of WW Eclipse Gold 7 that I'm using and an older Synergistic Research power cord for now. Is doing a great job with acoustic jazz, which is my primary music.

Congrats Glenn. I owned a pair of 1.7's for a few years before I sold them for the Canton's.

BTW, just read today that Jim Winey passed away on the 12th. Sad news indeed.

Very much enjoying them. Will get to the dealer to listen to the 1.7x this spring.

Yes, am aware of Jim Winey's passing. He had a good run to 90. May he RIP.

What's in store after the Maggies, Glenn?

Not sure. While the SQ is great, their size very much dominates that end of my room. Will make a decision this spring.

In our small listening room which is about 3.5m w x 4.5 m long I found that even the .7's were too visually dominating. I replaced them with a pair of off-white LRS+ and not only do they look much better to us, they sound better- and this is with tube amplification. The overall scale of everything is more agreeable.

Decision made, here. New Canton Reference 9 due in tomorrow. Now where to put the Maggies (large) in the meantime. Guess I'll put them back in the box, but they are not easy to deal with, physically.
