Interesting project from Max Richter: "Sleep".
From Presto Classical:
A new digital 8h landmark recording SLEEP by acclaimed British composer Max Richter. SLEEP is an eight hour exploration of music, consciousness and human connectivity – and is actually intended to send the listener to sleep. SLEEP is played on piano, strings, with subtle electronic touches and vocals – but no words. “It’s my personal lullaby for a frenetic world. A manifesto for a slower pace of existence. I want people to start playing it while they are getting ready for bed, so that they hear it in their sleep.” Max Richter Max Richter (piano, organ, synthesizers, electronics) & Grace Davidson (soprano) American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) When they played it at the BBC, they put 20 beds in the studio. People said in the morning that they had the best night since long. I'm listening to it now. It is really calming. Our radio station broadcast it last night to accompany its listeners with the change to winter time. The CDs are launched in December.

The one hour cd version is really nice and not at all sleep inducing and serves kind as a counterpoint to the 8 hour version.
Unfortunately, the 8 hour version is only available on iTunes. Last edited by JemHadar; 10-25-2015 at 05:22 PM. |

I've played the set of 8 CDs a lot of times already.
My daughter uses it often during the night to have a deep sleep (it's on her iPhone and computer). I play it often in the waiting room, where it fills the space with its warm, intimate and touching soundscapes. Recently Richter brought it live in a cathedral in Antwerp, Belgium. A whole night. People really enjoyed it. Some slept a sound sleep, some stayed awake, immersed in the music, played by Richter, the strings and a soprano. I was happy it made the headlines of the television news!

I was first introduced to him for his reimagined Four Seasons - it keeps the character of the original but it still sounds fresh and new.
On the Nature of Daylight is also a beautiful melancholic piece
