I see. I may give something a try. First I'll get back into the amp and see what values we have for those red barrel bypass caps. I assume the black piggie backing cap is parallel and just alters the value.

Peter,
I'm using Russian K75-10's, Vitamin Q's, Audiocap Theta, Cactus Blue and Duelund Copper and tin bypass caps. IMHO, caps can be rolled/swapped like tubes. It's a personal experiment in system synergy. I've had a non oversampling MHDT Labs Havana DAC for a long time and have tried several different caps. Audio cap Theta's with a Arizona Cactus Blue are a home run in my rig. Google capacitor shootout Jon L there is a lot of good info there. Les Last edited by FloridaBoy; 10-15-2018 at 06:22 AM. |

Tried a pair of the metal 6F6 in my Inspire, they are everything like described by BearCityUSA. Better than the pair of 6F6G that I was giving a spin.

If you haven't seen it already, The National Valve Museum cut open a metal 6J5 to see whats what.
Ever wonder about those American Metal Valves, is the title of the article. |

Just got my 6F6GT's today...
[IMG][/IMG] Have to burn them in for a couple of days, but already they sound really nice. [IMG][/IMG] The general consensus is that the metal 6F6's will sound better, but for the price, if these GT's are close I'm happy! |

I ordered three pairs. One pr RCA metal, one pr Tung-Sol USA smoke glass 6F6GT, one pr Russian 6F6S "Cobra" clear glass. Less than $100 for all three pairs including shipping, so a good option for playing around.
I'll be setting up my LP-2/KT150 again this weekend. My wife will be away, so I'll have a good chance to get reacquainted after the near breakup! This time, I will set them up more permanently in tandem with the FW J2. I will only need to move the speaker cables back and forth between the amps. |
