Quote:
Here's a new one: The singer's are pretty good but they cannot erase some of the great performances past. OTOH, the conductor and orchestra are excellent and the sound outstanding. First Salome in MCH/HD, afaik. |

What Classical Music Are You Listening To Tonight?
Chopin: The Nocturnes
Nelson Freire Decca (2010) Gentle and lyrical, among the great Nocturne recordings.

Telemann: Double and Triple Concerti
For this 50-disc box...
L'Oiseau-Lyre: The Baroque Era Limited Edition ...which consists mostly of Christopher Hogwood's output for the L'Oiseau-Lyre label. Now, disc #26 of 50. Telemann: Double and Triple Concerti The Academy of Ancient Music, Christopher Hogwood Excellent baroque music from Telemann, an underrated composer. The performance is vigorous but the recording, although fine, is not as impactful as I would wish. |

What Classical Music Are You Listening To Tonight?
Handel: Concerto Grosso, Op.6 No.6; Bruckner: Symphony No. 9
Sinfonieorchester does Bayerischen Rundfunk, Rafael Kubelik conducting Orfeo d’Or (2001) An oldie but goodie. Recorded in 1984, the sound is very good on this live recording, and the Bruckner is very well done. The Handel seems just a bit slow by today’s standards, but very enjoyable.
