Default Sonore Signature Rendu SE (Updated Review)

New toy arrived yesterday!! Been letting it burn in for a day and half, ready to listen now. It will be replacing my Sonore microRendu which was powered by the iFi wall wart power supply. For those not familiar this device connects to your dac via usb and connects to your home network via ethernet. It takes the computer out of your audio rack and gives you a purpose built DNLA player, or in my case Roon compatible. The machine running Roon Core is a i5 based linux machine from Small Green Computer with a 5 bay Synology NAS with several gig of music.

Congrats. I'm using the Sonore microRendu with hardware version 1.4 and the Uptone Audio LPS-1 power supply and like it very much. Please keep us apprised of your impressions as it runs in. I really love mine; it lets my Schiit Gumby become a Roon endpoint.

Very nice, I was looking at the same thing a while back. Here's Chris's partial review over at CA https://introducing-the-sonore-signature-rendu-se
I've decided to go this route myself = PS Audio DSJ.

I've been thinking about a microRendu myself so it's positive to see someone upgrading .... shows a happy Sonore customer - Looking forward to your thoughts on the micro vs the signature

I would go for it; has my highest possible recommendation. Love mine. I think you have to buy the ultraRendu, now though. The microRendu may not be available anymore. I'd recommend the Uptone Audio LPS-1 power supply to go with it, too.

I have been listening extensively the past couple of days to the Sig Rendu and I must say it’s an impressive piece of gear. While it’s certainly more expensive than the microRendu it also outperforms it in every way imaginable. The Sig Rendu has a, (yes I know these terms are used all too much but I don’t know what else to say), blacker background allowing images to be better grounded with an improved sense of actual 3D space. Also the bass lines are much cleaner with the Sig Rendu making me want to tap my toe along with the music more than before. After listening to the Signature piece for a few days I replaced it with the micro and everything seems broken. For me the Signature Rendu is a keeper.

Congrats! This sounds like an interesting piece of gear. I am using the PS Audio DirectStream with Bridge II. I presume the Bridge II is doing the basic same thing as the Sonore. Nice thing about going the route you chose is that you can choose any USB DAC you wish, whereas I can only use the DS. Not that I am complaining, mind you, but having options is always a benefit in this hobby.

Yes you are correct the Bridge II is doing the same basic thing. I was going to go that route but after a conversation with a Sonore designer at RMAF this year I opted for the Signature piece and not the Bridge. And you're correct it will give me options in the future but it also cost 3 times as much money as a Bridge II.

Agreed. And, IMHO, it's also pretty tough to beat the functionality and sound quality you get from a Sonore microRendu for $650.
