Joe,

Don't you think the S1 would be a downgrade from your TADs?

Probably. How do you (or anyone) think the Q1's would compare?

interesting comparison.
I know very well the TAD because they were on my shortlist of preferred speakers. Actually the choice boiled down to TAD or Q1, and I bought the Q1. More transparency, compared to them the TAD is a bit dry and I prefer sealed bass (cleaner) of Q1. The CR1 uses a great driver but the average quality of cabinet construction and crossover parts (everything is relative, in comparison with Q1) probably explains the difference with the Q1. My wife and I also much preferred the look of the Magico. They look like a minimalist piece of art.

I have also one pair of S1 on order. I have not listened to them in the same room as my Q1, but let's say that I was VERY impressed. They play at a much higher level than what their price shows, so I wold not dismiss them in a comparison with the CR1.
S1 sound is similar to the S5: a bit more relaxed and tolerant to the source than Q series, but slightly less transparent. Great imaging (better than Q1?), probably because of the shape of enclosure. They will not replace my Q1, I bought them as surround channel in my other system.

jazzman,

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your thoughts. A friend wants a pair of S1's and know someone else with S5's and loves them. Can't wait for your updates.

The S1s are absolutely sensational. Very worthwhile taking a demo if you're ever even slightly curious. The bottom end is astounding considering the driver array. I don't like all Magicos I've heard, but the S1 gets a very big thumbs up from me.

Cheers,

This was a great setup, actually I have both Bladelius Embla and Magico S1 home.

Hi Good Times,

Agree with you 100%!

I listened to a Weiss DAC & MAN301 demo last week. The S1 was paired with just a modest Stello Ai700 integrated amp but the dynamics, smoothness & musicality achieved in the 250 sq ft listening room was very satisfactory.

Hi CKKeung, how did the S1 sound compared to the S5 and Q1? I guess 250 sq ft would be a nice size for the S1.

+1.

I have the S5s at home right now, but I also heard the S1 at the dealers. Very resolving and extremely smooth and fluid at the same time. A rare combination.

A speaker to get right now in $15k range for smaller rooms.
