For the heck of it, I removed the Ultra Minis supporting my main system components (c-j Premier 17LS, Oppo BDP-83, PS Audio Dectet) to see whether, and to what degree, they would affect the perceived audible performance of my lower-level (both component- and acoustic-environment-wise) home-office system (c-j Sonographe SC25 SS preamp, Sonographe SA250 SS amp, and original-version Shunyata Hydra).

In the process, I experimented with different four-Mini configurations under each component, using familiar computer-soundcard-fed hi-rez downloaded program (at 24/96 or 24/192) for the comparisons. What wound up sounding best was a mixture of symmetrical placement under the Hydra and asymmetrical placement under both Sonographes, as pictured below. Note that the components are installed in a DIY "flexy" rack.

The results jibed with my main-system experience indicating that uniform "four-corner" beneath-the-chassis placement did not necessarily yield the best sonic outcome. It also reinforced my conclusion that "Ultra-Mini-ing" the power conditioner or power distribution chassis is a key element in achieving the best sonic performance.

FWIW.

Dan... I'm very happy to hear that you have experienced a further improvement in sound due to adding the Ultra Mini's to your C1000.

I have 28 boxes of Mini's arriving this Friday, so everyone keep an eye out for my Promo in our Marketplace.

Jim.......You have made a larger commitment to Stillpoints than me. I have given thought to larger Stillpoints under my pair of MC2301 amplifiers but my SF Amati Anniversario speakers do not lend themselves to Stillpoints adaptation with their particular stand angles.

Dan... you would be astonished how much is to be gained by putting Ultra SS feet on your 2301's. Those transformers must vibrate quite a lot, because the audible improvements are dramatic.

The stock threads on the 2301 are 10-32" and I chose Black Ultra SS feet for an OEM look.

I have the Ultra SS's under the MC601s and with the weight of the MC2301s that should be the minimum or greater in the SP line. The Ultra SS's under the B&W 802D2s brought out the best in the speakers. For the past year I have been lurking for other speakers including the Strads. After adding the Fathom F113v2s earlier in 2016 and then recently the Ultra SS's, I am unexpectedly quite content. (until at least Ivan decides he has no use for his Strads).

I should have added that the Ultra 5's would probably be even better. Your dealer might let you try them.

Wrt electronics, I found the greatest positive impact came from UltraSS under my amps.

As far as placement goes for things like preamps, CD players, etc.: experiment putting them under transformers and power supplies.

Dan,

Would you recommend Stillpoints over Isolation Bases such as those from HRS?

Nick.......I have no personal experience with HRS isolation bases. No experience with Symposium isolation bases, either. I do use Symposium Fat Padz under a solid maple Boos Block that my Michell Gyro SE turntable sits on. Beyond that, my experience with isolating gear has centered on Symposium Rollerblock Jr.'s and now Stillpoints Ultra Mini's.

My experience with Stillpoints Ultra Mini's has demonstrated to me that they offer a superior performance bump than do the Rollerblock Jr.'s. I also like that my gear doesn't wiggle to the touch with the Stillpoints like it did with the Rollerblock Jr.'s. Stillpoints are the way to go in my opinion.

I can't speak for HRS but in the case of SRA (Silent Running Audio) this is a tough choice. In the end, a platform performs additional functions versus a footer so it somewhat depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If your primary concern is cost then individual footers will usually be less money, particularly if they're lower cost footers such as the SP Mini. If your primary concern is isolation effectiveness and sonic impact I believe the better platforms (SRA, HRS) have the edge. That's also proportionate to the Stillpoints model you're thinking about.

Stillpoints can be very effective. SRA platforms are computer modeled for the specific device they will support and are easily modifiable if used for a different piece of gear.

Hippo, your question is open ended - there may not be a one size fits all answer. Can you say your specific usage context and what you're trying to achieve?
