By the way, I cracked open the box again and verified that there is no disc with my k -03. Apparently they only put one in every other box!

Neither my K-03 (purchased 2 years ago) or K-01 purchased recently included a run-in CD. I believe it was developed in conjunction with IsoTek so probably the same as the IsoTek one I assume (or similar) so I just used that.

I believe you can purchase this disc from Acoustic Sounds or Music Direct.

Hey 2Fast, My K-01 came with a disc, According to Esoteric, the K-03 & K-01 should have a disc. All my Esoteric deliveries to my home were opened and checked for content by Esoteric, thats 5 deliveries. Because you open them from the side brackets, it is difficult to tell if the box is still factory sealed. My Preamp did not look factory sealed and I wondered if I was sent a unit that was used in a show! According to the dealer it was brand new!

I got mine from Ivan. I am certain it was new, I just think the disc inclusion must be limited to whatever they have on hand. Listening to other people on this thread, it's clear that not every one has the disc.

Honestly, I don't care that much, it's just very curious given their obvious obsession with quality. I'll break it in with music

Ayre makes a great disc too! Irrational but Effacacious, if you go that route, check it out. Tom

Hi Tom,

The Ayre/Cardas is a great disc! The folks at Pass Labs recommended it to me. I picked one up the other day. The white noise track is recommended by them to break in their preamps. According to them, it's ok to run this track often to expedite the break-in process. So far, it has appeared to move the process along more quickly for both the K-01 and the XP-30. As for some of the other tracks on the disc, sweeping tones and such, I've been limiting them to once a week maximum, as per the instructions on the disc.

Best,
Ken

I believe they might be the same. I had purchased the IsoTek disc a couple of years earlier, then my Esoteric K-03 came with the Esoteric disc. I will check to see if they have the exact same timings.

Very interesting. Charles Hansen in another forum awhile back recommended the Brown Noise track for breaking in equipment. I think it is Track 4.
