Headed to NC for a few days of deer hunting. Weather forecast looks good and the bow-hunter/black-powder boys have been having good results. Sighted-in my 7mm-08 with the new Hornady Superperformance and am not that impressed. I'll shoot it, and hope the deer are more impressed then I am. Couple of 4" 3-shot groups at 200yd is not as good as my handloads. And, though Hornady says not, there is a noticeable up-kick in recoil. Proof will be venison on the table. We'll see.

Thanks. Had a good time and my large doe is out being turned into jerky and Italian sausage. Hunting from a stand morning and evening. Passed on a couple of button bucks and several other does. Missed a nice buck at 250yd+ in the rain and dark, shooting from the off-hand position. Had just gotten down from the stand at the end of the day and saw something above the beans across the field. Put the scope on it and was a nice buck. Chambered a round, which he heard, so got a good look at his spread (was 6-8 points) as he tried to figure out what I was in the rain/dark that far away. Just one shot and a flash of orange and he was gone. No chance to find him that night and could find nothing when light the next morning. Ah, well. At that distance I was likely a bit low and the beans ate the bullet. Was a pleasant surprise just how bright a good scope (Leupold VX-3 4.5-14x40) is in the dark/rain. Just turn the power down and it is very bright. Next year.
