karl,

Nice rig, Savage is by far the leader in $$ for the buck in factory rigs these days.

Local club shoots are a blast, it's been ten years since I last shot competitvely, so many guns with fast twist barrels and VLD bullet combinations I'd be starting over ! .......but something tells me my 6ppc would still hold it's own !

6mmPPC rules at 200yd and less. 6mmBR is the 'no-recoil' round for anything longer out to 1000yd. The 6.5x284 pretty much rules at 600/1000 based on a combo of velocity and bullet BC. However, a 6.5x284 barrel is good for about 1000rds +/- 200rds, so you best be serious if you are going to shoot one. Am thinking that same Savage F-T/R in .223 might be a great rifle. As you say, these AccuTrigger Savages are tough to beat on value-for-money basis.

Go for it! The Savage FTR quickly became my favorite gun to shoot. Slap a scope on it, do a light clean and oil, and it is otherwise 100% ready to go right out of the box with very high accuracy.

As an infrequent shooter, I love the gentle prompt that the AccuTrigger provides: once the leader is held flush with the trigger, I know the very next bit of pressure will make it go... not to mention the added safety provided by the AccuTrigger.

The 308 FTR has very little recoil due to the long and heavy barrel. Other than the noise, shooting 223 out of it will be like shooting a .22LR rifle! Follow-through should be a non-issue.

I don't have the time right now for loading my own ammo, so the 308 and 223 are interesting to me due to the current high availability of quality new commercial rounds.

Where are you located. Our club, Cumberland Riflemen, has a 600yd F-Class/Mid-range match once a month. All are welcome to join in the fun.

Would be nice to order one. But, just ordered new wood for the 1885 Win Low Wall am having built in 25/20SS for Schuetzen competition. By the time it is finished I'll be shooting BPCR silhouette, rimfire silhouette, service rifle XTC and Schuetzen, as well as trying to get in a few rounds of sporting clays per month. Would end up being a safe-queen.

Karl - have you gotten out to shoot your rifle in any competitions? Managed to get out to shoot my new F-Open rifle in a match two Sundays ago and again this past Sunday and shot 'Expert' both times. so am moving up a class or two. Great fun. Especially when one shoots well.

I have a couple of Savage 10FP rifles, .223 and .308. I agree about being the best bang for the buck, although I had to put both in new stocks to get rid of the cheesy black plastic things they came in. I figure those factory stocks were intended to be replaced so they just used the cheapest things they could find.
