Default Montille EL84

I have recently added Montile EL84 to my good old Allegro preamp. I tried to open the back сover to check the tubes and the trannies that are hiding there and to see if I could covert from 100v to 220v, but to my suprise I was unable to do so. It looked like it was done on purpose so nobody except technicians could open it. There is one screw that is impossible to get to without disassembling half of the unit. Could anybody explain how to get it opened and what kind of tubes are hiding there?

Evgeny

Can´t help you with how to open the back cover or convert it to 220 volt... But all of the tubes are visible on the front. There are no hidden tubes.

Do a search for "Shindo rewire from 100V to 120V to 240V?" on google maybe somethings come up...

Good luck with the Montille. I have on myself and I love it just feed it with good old NOS El84´s

Cheers

Is it hard to convert between voltages? Need to be done by Shindo?

I also have a Montille EL84 and I love it ... but I rarely listen to it because I also have a Cortese :-).

Rather than risking rewiring it, why don't you use an external transformer/adapter to get the voltage you need? Just an idea. At least as a first step.

Hi,
I got min from a fellow member here. During shipping the transformer dropped a nut off and it moved toward the edge making it almost impossible to remove the cover, I loosened the other nuts I could get to and pushed it over then I could remover cover and re-align and tighten the nuts. I generally feel no need to open things up but I heard the loose nut rattling around and feared a short.

Best of luck, it's a great amp, I'm running Telefunken EL84's and RCA 6AW8A's
I found NIB stock of the Philips 6AW8A's even same year and codes They are $6.00 each.

not entirely correct, most (all?) shindo power amps have tube rectification of sorts, the Montille included. Here some pics of two different Montilles, the configuration seems to vary on production run, my old Montille had another setup again.

I see it says 100v on back is this Japanese version or do the Shindo amps have 100v on them

Actually I'm pretty sure I have seen a Montille with solid state rectification lately...

First pic is solid state rectified with damper diode on CT, similar? Or minus the tube?

No tube. I opened one up the other week just to have a look and there was no tube...
This was a very recent production one too.
