These incidents of matching Stillpoints with components and with shelving materials are some of the "system synergy" issues I was talking about.

Randy, I love how you keep evolving and reporting your results. The stillpoints are a great example.
Too rich for me as I would need 8 of them for my speakers and that would almost equal the value of the speakers - that doesn't feel right to me. Keep going man!

I really did pucker up about spending the U5 price for feet on speakers that are hovering at $8500-ish in the used market, but frankly I would put my rig up against others costing 4 times as much, so I am now glad I did. |

The system sounds better on start-up tonight than when I ended last night, which convinces me that there is some kind of break-in with the Stillpoints. Just my guess, but I think that the "technology" needs a gravity load for a period of time to settle into the final position. The sound tonight is almost holographic, i.e. three dimensional and immersive, a wide soundstage, and a visceral feel to the music.

Congrats on the improvements.
How did you decide on minis vs SS. Is there a recommended minimum weight loading? Thanks |

I have read so much Internet discussion of Stillpoints that I do not recall where I read it, but I am of the opinion that a light component on heavy Stillpoints feet is a waste of money. I use a stupid rule: if I can hold it with one hand, Mini; if it takes two hands, Ultra SS; and if it takes a friend to help, Ultra 5.

If I recall correctly, Stillpoints has rated Minis at 100 lbs. max each, SSs at 500 lbs. max each, and U5s as virtually unlimited. My memory might be faulty, so take it as you will. I do know that Stillpoints does not recommend the heavier points on lightweight equipment, so SSs underneath a USB converter, for instance, is most likely overkill.

ss on a lightweight-ish (3kg) dac, worked for me, better than mini.
but only on wooden shelf. did nothing with same dac on glass shelf. |

Is this mean wood resonate so badly (sound muddy ) that SS makes different and glass behaved well enough that we do not need Special feet. ? Or is it that SS just doesn't couple very well with glass and cannot repair any damage in sound caused by glass shelf ?? I mean between , glass shelf sound so good that SS is no use. Or glass shelf sound so bad that even SS cannot help. What is it. Thank you. Toga |
