'American Gangster' ain't too bad. ...Based on a true story, and directed by Ridley.
Once Upon A Time... Is an awesome saga. It's right up there with the Godfather. The Godfather 3, in my opinion, should not be included with the other two installments. It detects from the overall story an presentation, if you ask me.

American Gangster was also quite good. This movie was inspired by a New Yorker magazine article. A compelling read.

---By the way, 'The Godfather - Part III' is simply part of the Trilogy, even if it's the lesser of the three. It is the culmination of the entire saga, the ultimate price paid, the final conclusion. ...That's all.

Can't think of a single top English gangster film sadly; there all a bit low budget with 'a bit of humour' thrown in.

The Godfather Trilogy
Goodfellas
Casino

Joe Pesci was superb in Goodfellas and won the Oscar for supporting actor. I think he portrays the ultimate gangster

Maybe so, but I can do without it.
