My 9000 doesn’t sound bright at all . With the Sonus faber Signatures I have it sounds wonderful. The EQ can also help make adjustments to your taste .

My MA8000 sounds wonderfully smooth with a level of warmth that makes me not miss my tube setup at all. The last way I would characterize its sound is forward or bright.
I'd be surprised to find much sonic differences between the 8000 and 9000, though I suppose it's possible. Let's face it, Mac didn't reinvent the wheel here.

If the MA9000 sounds/performs similar to my MA8900 I know I would be satisfied and without regret not having tubes. If I do decide to go this route I will be posting many tubes for sale on the site - will give AA members first choice.

The choice I have now is a 1.5 yo near mint MA9000 for $2500 less than a new MA9000. Although Mc will not transfer warranties my dealer feels he can get Mc to honor the remaining original warranty left.
Thoughts and opinions please.

I’d definitely go with the second hand option. Hopefully you will have 1.5 years warranty. Unlikely anything will go wrong but if it did after 18 months warranty period then you will at least have $2,500 in the bank to cover any repair costs. A risk worth taking IMO (even without any guarantee). And if something went wrong say after four years, you wouldn’t be covered with the brand new unit anyway but you’d still have $2,500 to cover repairs with the used option.

Any MA9000 owners?
If your dealer can get McIntosh to agree to honor their warranty which very clearly states it applies only to the original purchaser then they should be happy to put that in writing for you and make it part of the sale. If not then you are on your own. Helluva nice piece, I’m jealous!

I have decided to stay with the C2300/MC452 combo. Dealer I was doing trade with did not get his Mc dealership license renewed. Was not meant to happen for a reason.

I like my MA9000 very much--certainly powerful, not sterile, and it looks great. I've never cared for the DAC, though--it's a little cold and recessed--so I use a Chord Qutest DAC--sounds much better. There are probably phono stages, but I'm not ready to go down that rabbit hole just yet!

Am thinking MAC7200 as a 'one piece' analog solution. Maybe hang on to the Oppo for the occasional SACD.

The MAC7200 will serve you well. A great all in one box.
