I enjoy this cycle from Antonini and his Swiss orchestra. Good performance, good recording.

After enjoying the 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th from Antonini and his Swiss forces, I'm a fan of their Beethoven symphony interpretations and decided to add to my collection by getting their take on the 7th and 8th. Not sure why, but Gramophone skipped reviewing this disc which is a shame because they recommended the previous two releases in the cycle.

Well, I'm glad I got it because the playing is as intense as ever - the Allegro con brio finale from the 7th felt like it was about to burst out of my speakers (reminds me of Gardiner at Carnegie Hall with his ORR). The 8th comes over well and the recorded sound is natural and detailed. A very good disc from an excellent cycle which deserves more recognition.

Girolamo Frescobaldi - Canzoni
Les Basses Réunies, Bruno Cocset

Spinning a disc!
You don't find everything when browsing Tidal or Qobuz.
And some albums are too great not to be able to play...

Franck - Quatuor en ré Majeur
Chausson - Chanson perpétuelle
Quatuor Zaïde
Karine Deshayes, mezzo-soprano
Jonas Vitaud, piano

We saw these 4 ladies earlier this season. They were outstanding.
Franck nicely paired here with a Chausson song.

Evaristo e Joseph Dall'Abaco - "Padre e figlio"
Les Basses Réunies, Bruno Cocset

Much more intimate music than the 3 Dall'Abaco albums posted Sunday.
Recording quality is stunning.

I searched for “padre e figlio” on Qobuz and got this. I’m thinking it may not be the same release.

Default Beethoven - Symphony No. 9

A classic of the gramophone...

Beethoven - Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 'Choral'
Elsa Cavelti, Ernst Haefliger, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Otto Edelmann
Wilhelm Furtwängler, Philharmonia Orchestra

...a mono recording captured Aug 22, 1954 at the Lucerne Festival a few months before Furtwängler's death. The performance lasts over 75 minutes so he takes his time with the first movement and the Adagio but the approach works. The mono sound is fine and the SACD remaster is said to have improved on the original 1994 release. A 1995 Gramophone Award winner.

Bach - Cello Suites
Sigiswald Kuijken, violoncello da spalla

This is the instrument Bach composed his cello suites for.
Kuijken is convinced about that.
And I must say, the easiness with whom he plays these pieces convinces me too.
Much less acrobatic placing of the fingers than with a big cello.
