Default BDP-2 - New Bryston Integrated Audio Device

Hi folks,

We are starting to get some feedback on our new Bryston integrated audio device in the BDP-2 Digital player from customers who have compared it to our previous sound card.

“I've been listening to the new Bryston unit for several days. Compared to the older unit, the upgrade offers a noticeable improvement in resolution.

Is it a $500 improvement in overall sound? In categorical terms, it is a component upgrade; you would be remiss in not upgrading your current unit. It sounds characteristically like the older BDP, however there is a much more retrieval of information making it a more satisfying and exciting listening experience. Backgrounds are darker, it's tonally a little richer, there's more clarity and transparency, and there's a bit less grit in the presentation. The soundstage is a bit broader overall, but this took about a week of break-in to realize.

Why otherwise you would you pay $500 to upgrade?

It plays DSD through the AES/EBU output.”

I thought DSD could only be transmitted natively via USB? Is this simply an example of DoP then which would make sense?

I simply cannot justify upgrading to the new sound card. The way I see it, if the existing card fails in five (5) years, I'd get the upgraded sound card free under warranty.

Hi James,
Does it in fact now output DSD via AES/EBU?
If so, that is worth the upgrade alone in my view.

We are looking at it and it appears DSD 64 only on AES.

Do we have to do something to make that work or is it automatically installed and capable in the firmware?

You have to choose the USB audio device in the BDP under Audio Devices but in most cases it will be selected automatically on start up.

James,

Can a BDP-1 be upgraded to a BDP-2, or have any mods done at all?
