jax, I'm envious of your room. I have the C1's and would love to set them up in a space like that. I showed it to my wife and she agrees and is on board!

Anyways, I know the Benchmark has good jitter rejection, but from a fellow AE user, I would recommend considering a reclocker like the Empirical Audio Synchro-Mesh Reclocker to go in between the AE and your DAC if you're not going to upgrade your digital source any time soon

I'd then connect the reclocker to your DAC via electrical (coax or BNC) with a good cable.

I had my Sonos modded a while back and upgraded my digital cable and it really made a huge difference in the resolution I perceived as well as imaging tightness and soundstage definition (best way I can describe the improvement). It was another step towards "being there." I'd say it's pretty hard to tell the difference now between the Sonos and my computer via async USB on my Meitner DAC. Some folks used to do mods on the AE, but I'd just get a reclocker since the price is lower now. Back when I got my Sonos modded, the Empirical reclocker was like $1200 vs. the 550 it was to get the Sonos mod, so I went cheaper. Now, the prices are more comparable.

When I play my Sonos (modded) and AE (stock) simultaneously thru the MA-1, I notice a difference.

Now that I think about it, though, you may want to just skip that and invest in a computer solution since you have the Benchmark 2, which does DSD and hi-rez. Check out computeraudiophile.com and the CAPS builds they recommend. You could put together a machine with JRiver and download JRemote (check it out) and you can forget about jitter and also enjoy hi-rez. JRemote would let you control the system much like you do with the iTunes Remote app, but IMO, it's better.
