Default 80BJr Starter System

Well, our "little boy" got his CS degree from Georgia Tech this spring, and is taking it out to the west coast, where he'll be a software engineer for Google.

Since he'll barely be able to afford rent there in the Bay area, we decided to give him our B&W 802D speakers, Rega P3-24 TT, MX-136 pre-pro, and a new MC275 that he'll unbox in his new bachelor pad.

First two LPs we bought him are Pet Sounds and Led Zeppelin IV - going to California being the theme.

I'm leaving it up to him to buy his own speaker cable & interconnects.

Congrats on your son graduating from Georgia Tech and getting a great job. Nice system to send him off with. When my daughter graduated and moved to San Diego for her new job, she went by plane and only brought a couple of suitcases.

So is this what I missed out on by not having an audiophile parent? When I graduated with my BS in Aerospace Engineering and moved to Cincinnati my parents gave me some plates and some cookware. I guess the grass always looks greener

Nice! My “audio aware” son graduated Emory several years ago, and is a senior software engineer for IBM, in Atlanta. He received a pair of Monitor Audio speakers, and a nice Yamaha amp with phono. He got a Project turntable for Christmas a year later. He is more into playing bass guitar nowadays. We made him a Bottlehead Tode guitar amp 2 christmas’s ago.

My daughter, who got married a month ago, had a simpler stereo system, again with a turntable. They are very happy with the Sonos system I purchased to play their playlist for the wedding music, that they get to keep.

Gotta indoctrinate those kids early!

That's a heck of a "starter" system! I'm sure that amp will be with him for quite some time.

I can relate. After college I had a couple suitcases moving from Ohio to Hong Kong and for music a cheap boombox and a plastic box of 12 cassettes that used to be under the passenger seat of my MGB. Lived in a dump there but had the time of my life at the ripe old age of 23.
