Any rumor about when a DP730 ?

The 900 and the DP550 have been upgraded to the 950 and the DP560. When the DP720 will be upgraded ?

If I buy a DP720, I am afraid that the NEW DP560 may be better than his older brother DP720 ! Or that a DP730 is around the corner !

The 720 is fairly new, newer than the units that have been recently replaced.
There will always be something newer around the corner and waiting for that will mean that you end up buying nothing

DP-950 and DP-560:
The transport mechanisms have been improved.
This may also be the case for the successor of the DP-720 in the future.

DC-950 uses one ESS 9038Pro per channel (8 DACs per channel).
According to Accuphase the output currents of these chips are four times as high as those of the ESS 9018S chips.
By using one ESS 9038Pro per channel (DC-950) instead of two ESS 9018S per channel (DC-901) the output current could be doubled and therefore the signal to noise ratio (and THD) improved.
For the successor of the DP-720 the same DAC may be used.

DP-560 uses one ESS 9018S for two channels (4 DACs per channel) replacing the one ESS 9008 of the DP-550.

For comparison: DP-720 uses one ESS 9018S per channel (8 DACs per channel).

My guess: successor of DP-720 (DP-750?) within one to two years.

Martin

My dealer recently told me that the DP-720 successor will be presented this summer, but he had no details. Has somebody here got more news on that?

Traditionally the DP-700, DP-720 are a one box solution based on the flagship separate models. So expect to see ESS 9038Pro being used - probably one, possibly 2. Obviously it will also benefit from new tech that Accuphase has developed that can be fitted into a single chassis solution.

But a real clincher for so many people will be the USB input will now be able to accept DSD signals which the DP-720 did not. I think that will make the new player ( DP-730 or 750?) very attractive indeed because it can play all music from a music server/streamer as well as playing all the discs. Accuphase USB interface is also superior to the traditional Xmos/Amanero interfaces used by most other DAC manufacturers.

It should still retain the ability to play DSD files from DVD-r as if it was SACD ( If burned in the DSD_Disc format) which will make it a very versatile high end one-box solution. Like it s predecessors, expect it to sell very well.

True. For me it's not an issue, because my DC-37 plays DSD 64 and 128. For the new player, DSD capability is a 'must'.
One thing my dealer mentioned is that Accuphase has worked on reducing any noise coming from the drive. I have no reason to complain but I know 720 owners who can sometimes hear their drive when playing a CD/SACD at low volume.

If the DP-560 is anything to go by, the DP-720 replacement will be a truly versatile machine. DP-560 will play Pcm, flac and DSD data discs as well as CD and SACD. It has USB input but Accuphase transport is superior to computers/servers and just about anything that can be played on a server can be burned to disc and played. Its great for the audio purists who have a lot of favourite albums on HDD.

I am hoping for something in the vein of the T+A PDP 3000 HV for the DP-720 replacement.

I am wondering when Accuphase is going to make the jump to support DSD512. I know in the future I would love to route everything through HQPlayer upconverting to DSD512 and output that to the DP-720 replacement, but I have a feeling it might be a minute until we see DSD512 support from Accuphase.

I think it's almost guaranteed that the replacement for the DP-720 will have DSD over USB. Accuphase incorporated the feature with their new DP-430, a non-SACD player. I take that as a sign they've committed DSD over USB for new digital products.
