I purchased my very first ever HD downloads last night. Seven albums total, all in 24/96 except one in 24/88, from HDtracks.

Anyway, this is what I'm playing at the moment...

London Blueback LP of Rodrigo, Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra, Narciso Yepes on guitar and Falla, Nights in the Garden of Spain with Gonzalo Soriano, piano, accompanied by the National Orchestra of Spain conducted by Ataulfo Argenta.

It sounds AMAZING!

Also, very quiet....really nice recording.

And Stephen - it's been too long since you visited us here and I'm very glad that you've returned. You have been missed.

Beautiful Choral - Vocal Music for early morning dream time.

Listening to . . . . Mozart - Exsultate Jubilate

Exsultate, Jubilate, K. 165; Vesperae solennes de confessore, K. 339; Kyrie in D minor, K. 341; Ave verum corpus, K. 618

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa
London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus - Sir Colin Davis. Conductor

Oscar Hammerstein may have said it best - "There is nothing like a dame" at least nothing like this dame - Dame Kiri - What a voice!!!. A very good recording of beautiful music by a superb orchestra, chorus, and soloist.

This is a winner - from the dark ages - way back in 1990, when even I was a wee slip of a lad (still in my 40's).

Default Beethoven - Symphonies No. 2

Good morning everyone (usually I'm a late raiser and don't play my first piece until after 10 am - today: 7 am).

Beethoven: Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36
Minnesota Orchestra, Osmo Vänskä

Enjoying one of the few "classical" era pieces from Beethoven. These Minnesota/Vänskä Beethoven symphonies are surprisingly good and the BIS recordings are warm and exceptionally transparent. They are making good music up in Minneapolis and I hope the orchestra can resolve the musician lock out soon.

Sorry, Julian. All the cushy jobs are taken, but I'll check for you.

From CNN

Consultant

What they do: Provide expert advice in an area of training, such as marketing or finance, for a specified time period.

What makes it cushy: Working long enough to feel good about all of the problems they solved, and short enough to not have to worry about all of the new ones their solutions might cause.

Why it's not: Workers feel threatened the by the new changes, which could lead to backlash, or at the very least, ongoing alienation while consultants work with the company.

Why thank you, Julian.

I was literally born into classical music, with good ole' J.S. Bach being the biggest influence as he's the "king" of the king of instruments which my father and brothers mainly listened to. Of course, I have loads of music from other composers, as well as acquiring new material finally.

I have to say, after thinking about it, probably 80% of my digital collection is nothing but classical, 90% in vinyl, and 90% in cassette. Of course, the cassettes are nothing more than the vinyl being recorded onto the cassettes for both preserving the LP's and having said music on the go.

And to keep on topic, I'm headed to work soon, but I will leave our six cats with this playing all day... They really enjoy it!

The afternoon listen:
Elgar - Violin Concerto
Vaugn Williams - The Lark Ascending
Hilary hahn
Sircolin davis conducting the London Symphony Orchestra
DG B0003026-02 (redbook)

Well played and nice presentation, though the sonics leave me a bit wanting. Great listening though!

Regards,
Jim
