Jeff,

Look forward to your thoughts on how the Romulus compares to the AMR.

Wow, Jeff! All tubes and all SS systems for different seasons and moods.

Have you compared how the Aesthetix Atlas vs Bryston 28B-SST2 sounded when driven by Aesthetix Calypso Signature preamp?

Not that I didn't like my combination of the Calypso Sig + 7B-SST2, but the input/output impedance of both units (in balance connection) that is not theoretically ideal makes me wonder if I could find a better match.

Both Bryston amps' input impedance (bal) are 15k ohms as in the manuals, and around 10K ohms as tested by Stereophile. Calypso preamp nominal output impedance (bal) is 600 ohms. Stereophile measured 112 ohms @1KHz & above & 3,900 ohms @ 20Hz. For unbalance, midrange-->high freq., 2,400 ohms, so I presume 1,450 ohms (nominal 600 bal vs 1,000 SE) for bal.

nominal = 16.67x / 25.00x
@1K Hz & above = 89.29x / 133.93x
@midrange to high = 6.89x / 10.34x
@20 Hz = 2.56x / 3.85x

Thanks.

I have.....both amps are excellent with the Calypso signature, slightly different flavors as to be expected, the 28s have smidge more weight as where the Atlas monos have a touch more openess......no complaints with either, honestly i'm thrilled with both .......I guess one could dig out faults of either if need be.....been there done that, not really my mindset any longer! other things to worry about The numbers are in the ballpark, not perfect but no issues what so ever. One would notice a softness or rolled mid to lower freq. that would get in the way of the musical experience if they didn't play nice with one another and this is not the case here......

Thanks Cyril......all the pieces are falling into place finally

The unit I have has a 19dB not to terribly loud......nothing really quieter in the ductless catagory however there are ways to lower the dB.....Insulating around the unit and placing the unit 15 feet away from my listening position will cut what I hear from the unit in about half......I recently completed a listening room for a customer and we used two of these and really all you hear is a slight wooshing of air, realy not distracting for me, heck my tinitus is louder
