Sadly no. EMM Labs seems to have stopped supporting the XDS1 instead releasing a slightly upgraded XDS1 v2 which did get the firmware. Frankly, I thought it was just bad customer service for a 25k USD SACD player.

The Playback Designs MPS5 on the other hand has had a whole slew of upgrades and continues to be supported tho I did find it lost out to the XDS1 that I owned in terms of absolute detail retrieval. It was still extremely good to listen to - in some respects, the mid bass emphasis reminded me of my TT setup

Thanks for the information. I heard Playback Design's new integrated amp/dac at AXPONA this Spring and was very impressed. It was quite musical and engaging. I suspect Andreas will keep pushing the envelope for some time to come.

It does seem the best yet, doesn't it? I've gone from 1.2.1 to Pikes Peak to Yale Beta and now Yale Final and like what's happened during each changeover.

I did a three part review of the DS DAC if anyone's interested. They can be found here:

PS Audio DirectStream DAC and Network Bridge, Part 1 | JDA1951's Xanga Site

PS Audio DirectStream DAC and Network Bridge, Part 2 | JDA1951's Xanga Site

PS Audio DirectStream DAC and Network Bridge, Part 3 | JDA1951's Xanga Site

If anyone has a problem accessing them please let me know and I'll see if another method works.

Ivan, if this isn't kosher, I'll delete the posting. Thanks.

Can you verify that when you did this latest upgrade, "Yale" appeared at the top of the info display rather than to the right of "Rev:" as it did with Pike?

I know Ted Smith and others say it's a No-No, but by any chance have you attempted to connect your 105D to the I2S input of the DS DAC? I'm tempted, but I'm also a big chicken!

Steve

LOL! I guess this may be a case of birds of a feather...no, I haven't either although I've been sorely tempted any number of times. If one day I get up the nerve, I will most definitely let you know.

Regards,
Joe

Go with Ted's advice on this one! The HDMI outputs of the Oppo 105D are HDMI standard outputs. The I2S input on the PS Audio DACs use a non-standard wiring of the pins which is NOT compatible with standard HDMI connections. So the connector type is the only thing that they have in common, but they are wired differently therefore connecting them has no chance of working and could damage some of your gear.

I did find it interesting that James Tanner reported being able to get DSD from the Oppo 105D (I believe that was the model) to the prototype BDA-3 DAC via the HDMI input on the DAC. Certainly got me thinking that this is possible.

Keep in mind that the Bryston DAC uses HDMI inputs wired according to the commonly used standard, and not the I2S connection wiring that PS Audio created.
