i followed the wasp method & base on that i'm about 4 feet away from the rear walls, unless am doing something wrong.
i'm using the accuphase DG48 room correction. It does a fine job. No degradation at all. In fact you dont even notice it as it does so little to the signal. It corrects for the full spectrum. As my place has different walls on the left and right side, the DG48 balances things out in a very neat way. If I toe in a lot, I notice that i get more focus but the soundstage is not as wide. My s3s are not as toe-d in like most of you guys Wilsons are. I'll try to take more pictures of my place and see what you guys think. Thanks |

The acoustics of the listening room and speaker placement are a very interesting topics.
The reflections and the resonance in the room are dependent on the position of the speakers. Consequently the listening point is a function of the reaction of the room. So it's very important to seek the best location for the speakers and the listening point. Often this aspect is underestimated. The environment IMHO determines the 40% of the final performance. For the positioning of my dynamic speakers I have always used with great satisfaction the empirical rule of thirds and fifths. This is an method applicable to rectangular rooms. It consist into divide the width and the lenght of the room by three and/or by five. These values are the best distances where to place the speakers and the listening point and can be used separately or together. For examples if you have a rooms 6x4.5 meters then: - rule of the thirds: each speaker is 2.0 meters from the back wall and 1.5 meters from the lateral wall. The listening point is 2.0 meters from the rear wall and in a central position between the lateral walls; - rule of the fifths: each speaker is 1.2 meters from the back wall and 0.9 meters from the lateral wall. The listening point is 1.2 meters from the rear wall and in a central position between the lateral walls; - rule of the thirds and fifths: use the mixed mode. For example each speaker is 1.2 meters from the back wall and 1.5 meters from the lateral wall. The listening point is 1.2 meters from the rear wall. |

I have around 120 hours more or less on the S3s and its definitely getting better and better especially the highs. My ears no longer hurt. The bass is getting more articulate, and not as hard...
This is a lovely speaker to look at and listen to... enjoying every bit. I'm looking forward to trying out some Transparent cables with it... All for now... |

I use the Ref 110 with the Sophia 3's and can't imagine a better match...As the VS115 is very similar to the Ref 110 it should be killer with the Sophia's as well

For sure the Ref 110 w/ the Sophia 3s would be nice, but more concern on the VS115 or the new integrated amp VSi 60 ??
