Thank you for expanding your impressions and considerations Viper.
Thus far I have experienced the D'ag mono's in company with the associated Momentum Pre, as well as only recently an Momentum Integrated, however, Unfortunatly I have yet to experience the Stereo in concert with an ARC Ref Pre.
I must state for the record that I found that the Integrated, in the flesh so to speak is Utterly Gorgeous in design and finish and sounded effortlessly Sublime .

Given that My preferred weapons of choice have tended towards the Thermionic I rather suspect that the tried and trusted recommendation, for someone with my particular predilection, may well prove to be exactly where you have found yourself, albeit I am for my part currently sporting an Ref5se, I do have my Radar sweep tuned for an Ex Dem or One careful Lady driver 40th Anniversary.

Jasper.

Hi Jasper, how much a compromise in your estimation is the D'ag Integrated vs their Separates (Mono/Stereo+Preamp) - any particular area notably stood out? Thanks.

has anyone compared the dan d'agostino amp with a ARC ref 150 or 250 with KT 150 tubes? i understand that the KT 150 significantly improves on the ARC amp vs its stock KT 120 tubes. Wonder if the KT 150 tubes would tilt the balance towards the ARC amps.

Murphys33, welcome to AA! I would not say "significantly". There are different opinions here, but some of us who have made the swap don't think there's any difference, or its minor at best. Some think it improves the bass, but I haven't heard anyone say it's significant.

It's always useful to have more power available. KT150 gives you 40 W per unit.
I have no experience with the ARC amps but the Ayon Orthos XS with KT150 was sensitively better than KT88 or KT120 designs on demanding load. I assume the final result will depend on the speakers.
Anyway, if you love tubes, the Orthos XS delivering 300 W per channel in triode mode could be an interesting option...
Cheers,

Joël

Old thread, but has anyone compared the Ref75/150 to the D'A Stereo?

About 2 years ago,I compared the Ref 150 in my system against the Dag Stereo for a weekend and found them remarkably similar. If the Dag could be tubed, it would be an ARC Ref 150 and vice versa. I was surprised to hear and feel no drop off in bass response other than the slightly warmer and wetter tube response from ARC which sometimes sounded more natural and sometimes not. At my listening levels (between 75 to 90 dbs), neither amp showed any sign of running out of steam. I have since replaced the KT 120s with KT 150s in my Ref 150 and I know the Dag has been updated.
As I generally prefer the sound of tubes and lost most of that feeling with a tubed pre (Ref 40) and the Dag amp, I stuck with my ARC amp. If I ever cross over to the other side, it would be with the Dag. I tested these amps in the system set forth below.

Awesome feedback thanks. I will get an in home demo of the Momentum Stereo, but due to work commitments not for another 3-4 weeks.

This thread had caught my eye. I currently have the ref250se driving Sf Il Cremonese with the ARC Ref6 pre. My dealer is bringing down the Momentum Mono's. Looking forward to the audition in my room. It's a great service he's providing. I will probably only have them for the day! Not sure what to expect. He's not putting a bit of pressure to buy, he just wants me to hear what he calls the best SS amp he's ever heard. I love my tubes, but the heat, in my room is a small issue.

With an all ARC system, you are getting huge synergy. All of your components are voiced similarly. I would be very surprised if you prefer the Momentum Monos to the Ref 250 SE Monos in your system. I look forward to reading your comments.
