Default Contemplating new Shunyata gear

After my great visit with Caelin a week ago, and doing a lot of research, I am contemplating a move to my first Shunyata products to start building up my power delivery. I may not be able to purchase them right away, but soon.

I am thinking of going with an MPC-12, because I do have a Mac Mini and a fan, which i could plug into the digital side to isolate from my K-03 and ARC gear. I don't even know if i can get a better cable for my mini, but that's low on my priority list.

Then for my K-03 and pre/power, I am not sure if I should go with venom 3, venom digital, and venom HC, OR go with Viper for all of those. The Viper seems odd that it's the only cord that is not broken into different types. I don't know if I can afford all Alpha cords right away...that will give me something to upgrade to later if this impresses me

Which brings me to another question: should I go with the PS-8 or just stick with my current power product (RGPC 1200) and buy better cords, like all Alpha? Again if I do that, i'll still have a fan and mac mini polluting everything. I definitely like the idea of isolating stuff.

OH and I also have a power line Ethernet adapter. I bet that thing is making a huge mess of my power system I could probably switch to wifi because my files are local on the mini.

I also have an ARC LP-1 and VPI classic one, but I don't use them very much, and they are usually turned off. They can wait.

Thoughts/advice?

I haven't been to Seattle in years, but when I was there I loved the city and people I met. I have been half-way thinking of taking a mini-Seattle vacation, and ride the ferry for a trip to Shunyataville.

I can't comment on those specific items, but I love my Shunyata gear. It seems to give me a bigger improvement in sound than does new gear.

I recently bought a DPC-6, it did a lot on my "computer sources" like my clock, transport, and turntable motor controller. Even the Apple TV seemed better on video...

I don't think it actually made these better...it blocked the noise from them which made my analog pre amps and amps sound better

Just moving the turntable motor controller (a DSP dedicated computer) to the DPC-6 was impressive.

I don't think you'll go wrong with a MPC-12. I'd be sure to put the best cable you can on it's input...even if you have to use stock elsewhere as funds allow

Speakers: Rockport Altair 2
Preamp: Robert Koda K10 Amp: Ayre MX-R
Cables: Transparent Opus MM2 Spkr, Opus Gen 5 Interconnect
Power Shunyata Triton/Typhon/DPC-6, Anaconda Zitron cords (x9), Sigma HC (x1)
Digital dCS Vivaldi DAC, Transport & Clock w/ Transparent Reference XL Digital cables
Phono: Grand Prix Monaco TT, Spiral Groove Centroid, Jan Allaerts MC2 Finish & Lyra Atlas, Nagra VPS/VFS
Racks: Grand Prix Audio Silverstone F1 (x2)

As we discussed, it is better to buy less expensive PC cords but replace them all. You really want to get the stock commodity cords out of the system. This will give the best overall performance for your dollar.

The MPC-12 makes a great power distribution platform to build on. As you said, it has both Analog and Digital sections for computer based music systems and it has a healthy 12 outlets.

Power Cords:
Get the VENOM-HC for the amplifier. The MPC-12 comes with a VENOM-HC as standard equipment
Get a VENOM DIGITAL for the CDP or DAC
VENOM-3 for everything else

Then in the future, as the audio budget gets replenished, you can upgrade the power cords one at a time.

Hope this helps,

Caelin

Thanks Caelin, can you give me a little background on how the viper fits into the lineup? Is it "better" than the venom, and why is there only one variant of it? That was one of my biggest questions as I was learning about all your products.

The whole reason for AA is so that everyone benefits and learns. I figured I'd put my questions out there in public so anyone with similar questions or experiences can either get answers or chime in as appropriate.

Plus, I knew Caelin would be perusing the post at some point

you can begin wherever you like, but you will end up with sigmas/triton soon enough.
your level of gear demands the best, and you will be rendered powerless to object.
i would wait to be able to afford these.

I have actually enjoyed walking the upgrade path. In fact, I would say that savoring each level is better than jumping right to SOTA. But that's just me....
