Now, if you have a reason to want better speakers, that is another story. |

Definitely agree with Kal. But I also will give a +1 to the aerial 7t. Other great choices would be elac and dali, several models to choose from in your price range.

This.....thanks for all the insight. I'm heading up to a Mac dealer this weekend to listen to several different brands of speakers. I'm partial to B&W especially the 803 D3's.

as for speaker choices, take your ears for ride, find a competent dealer and listen. You will get many recommendations for sure but most are biased to ones own. good luck ! |

A quick analogy that would help to set the right path down this nutty hobby of ours.
Think of building a race car. The speakers are the chassis and the body, they shape everything that is to come. The amp is the engine, it is what propels that fancy chassis and body and the source with the rest of tweaks are the all important finishing touch, the proper racing tires. Another words, always audition, audition, audition until you come across a proper speaker that moves you but can also reach its potential given your listening room dimensions. Not too big, it will overpower the room and sound congested and bloated, not too small, it will never have good bass response. Once the right speaker finds you, (that's right, it is not you finding it, it's the other way around ) everything else falls into place and you can take your time auditioning components that can bring out the very best of that speaker. I would also suggest spending a very good chunk of your budget on good speakers. There is not one single item after the speaker that can make as of substantial difference as the difference between different speakers. |

What i've been doing the last few years has been finding used speakers I can resell without risk of serious financial loss and spending several months with them and for the most part while all the speakers have been enjoyable none have stepped up yet although my current ones sound like they're going to be keepers time will tell.
Long term listening has given me a better understanding of whats going on in my system and whats to blame on my room vs the speakers. Like you i'm married to my amp an H360 and my speakers will have to play nice with it, we gotta draw a line somewhere right? |

You guys are awesome. You've given me a great deal to think about. I just picked up the amp and plan on hooking it up tonight (right after I find a mule to help me carry it). I hope it will make the CM 10 dance like several mentioned.
The 452 was a demo unit and the owner said it had less that 50 hours on it. I've read anywhere between 200-500 hours of break-in before it comes "alive". Again, thanks for all the insight. Bob |
