This evening...live and in person:

Stan Kenton Centennial...

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis

Special guest: Lee Konitz

An awesome evening with 2nd row seats and a chance to speak with Wynton after the show.

Bart, it was outstanding. The music kept us engaged and tapping our toes, all night. The solos were wonderful, and the dialog with the audience made us laugh. The evening's musical highlight was probably a ten minute Konitz/Marsalis duo where Wynton played off of Lee's lead. At one point, they both paused...expecting the other to take a solo, but they were both out of breath...very funny!

Afterwards, we were with a group that had a private cocktail reception with the band. We had done this, last year, as well, and hadn't gotten the opportunity to speak with Marsalis. This time, we met him and spoke for a few minutes...he and the other band members were very welcoming and fun. We even got a couple of funny stories that we promised not to put online...great night!

Robert, I envy you
Moments like these, live music, improvised in the moment, and then even meeting the artists in person.... wow!

Vince Guaraldi, Bola Sete, And Friends

No Charlie Brown soundtrack here. Brazilian bossa nova. Star Song, and Moon Rays are my favorite tracks from this album. The percussion is way back giving good depth to the soundstage. Sounds like the percussion is 6 feet behind the speakers.

Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers With Thelonious Monk

Blakey & Monk are great, but both Johnny Griffin on Tenor Sax and Bill Hardman on trumpet have some good solos on this album.

4 Men With Beards Release
