Default Soulution 520 preamp

In a week or so I am going to try this preamp in my system. Anybody heard or tried it?

I've heard the 721, which is excellent. I wasn't as thrilled by the 7 Series amps, but I have high hopes for the 5 Series, given Valin's blog reports and what I heard from folks who went to CES this year.

Please let us know what you think after listening.

Why not to go with the 18NS when you already have the 108 ? You can save a lot on the cables (both IC and PC) as well.

The 18NS is a battery operated preamp with lead acid batteries. I am not wild about lead acid batteries in expensive electronics. They have to be replaced every 3 or 4 years. There is one dealer and no demo program. Battery operated preamps sometimes don't have the same dynamics as others.

At this point I am not spending big dollars to try something that I can't hear.

It has gotten good reviews.

As to the cables, I already own them.

But you can sell them
Preamps is something I haven't tested much, but I'm frankly happy with my 18NS.
I did hear the Soulution 720 with my 108, driving Magico Q7, and it was very good, a tad better than the 18NS actually. A little brighter overall, with more transparency. But unfortunately I only had time to play a handful of songs. I might get the chance to test the 720 again.
I wouldn't bother with this 520, and go straight for the 720, before Soulution decides to put switch mode power supplies in all their models. It's only a little cheaper than the 18NS...

I have heard that the 520 is better than the 720. Isn't the switching power supply just in amps?
I am not doing the amp. The NHB stays.
I don't think the are doing it in the preamp.
I also don't have to buy it if I don't like it.

If I could demo an 18s in my system I would try it. The dealer told me to pound sand when I asked for a demo. A dealer I trust also told me the Dartzeel amp is most of the goodness.
You can sell the preamp if you don't like it but its a 10k round trip. I am not doing this just to try it.

My 326s is pretty great.

We will see.

I also understood that Soulution is using SMPS in the 501s and considering it for an update/improvement to the 7 Series amps. I don't think they're using this in the preamps.

If the 520 is better than the 720 it must be something really special.
