Default Long vs short wall

I read it's better to have speakers set up on the short wall in a rectangular room.

This is my temporary set up. I know I need some racks. Currently I have the Guarneri Memento set up on the long wall just because I feel the 2 doors will allow speakers to "breathe" better. Both doors are opened during listening sessions. If I set them up on the short wall, one speaker will be quite close to the corner, which can create an imbalance.

Any input?

Try both spots and go with the one that sounds best. Every location will have pluses and minuses.

I think your placement is the best, just adjust your chair and the distance to the rear wall to avoid too much bass, if that is a problem.

I would try both walls. When I owned my MBL's they worked better on the long wall. It seemed they liked having room to the sides and didn't require as much room behind them. With my X2's I didn't even try them they on the long wall. They would not have worked as well close to the back wall and pulling them out would have had them way too close to my seating position. It all depends on your room and your speakers.

agreed, but in the 'perfect' world speakers on the short wall is the way to go IMO

From your diagram, the measurements make the room look almost square.

I would try setting your speakers on the wall at the bottom of your diagram--reversing your present set-up--having the seating positions against the wall your speakers are presently against. That way they will have a symmetrical placement in the room.

How about the bass, what would work best? You must try both

That is also what I would do

Imaging is perfectly centred, no imbalance. There's no bass issue either. Actually I would like more bass. Sounds like experimentation is what I need to do.

When I was setting up a music room with my friend, we had a choice of either the long or short wall.

We started with the gear on the long wall.

Soundstage was wide. But we were too close to the rear wall or to the speakers. So the soundstage depth didn't feel right.

We moved to the short wall where we kept it. But the soundstage width wasn't quite as good even with room treatment.
