Tom, I also stayed up late the first night I received my new C1100. It exceeded my expectations over my C2300 I had been using for many years.

Craig,
I bought this preamp without hearing it. I wanted to stay in the McIntosh family because of the 2301's. Risky sure, but several reviewers liked it , as did some folks here whose opinions on gear run similar to mine.

This preamp has detail in spades. I see you have a C 2300, as do I. Huge difference in detail recovery and just plain quiet.

Lots of options out there at this price point, but I think it's hard to beat the price/performance.

Thank you!!! I came close last fall from taking one home from Audio Classics but blinked. Should have done it!

I went from the C500t to the C1100. The difference in line stage was subtle, but noticeably better. The phono stage is FAR, FAR quieter!! NOT EVEN CLOSE!! I could never get the c500t to eliminate tube noise or slight hum, regardless of my grounding scheme. The C1100 is DEAD quiet, even at full preamp volume with my ear to the very sensitive tweeters of my Tannoy Westminster Royal GR. That alone was worth the upgrade! An incredible preamp!

I've got about 50 hours on mine so far. McIntosh really has something going with the C1100 and MC2301 combo. This is what I've wanted my system to sound like for awhile.

+1.

I just went from a C2300 (which I love) to a C1100 and I am wondering what took me so long...

The C1100 is so much more detailed and the noise floor is a lot lower.

I was looking at the Audio Research Ref 6 and I heard it the day after I picked up the C1100 (just by chance I walked into a McIntosh dealer that had just become a Audio Research dealer and they had one on display, after looking for a while at any place I could hear one but had no luck). I was expecting to be blown away by the Ref 6, but I have to say I think the C1100 is much better and more musical. I was prepared to buy the Ref6 on the spot, but decided not to due to what I was hearing...

McIntosh got this one right....
