This is the first Oppo product I've ever owned. I don't have much 83 time under my belt yet. But I will say this, it's pretty damn fast. It is more robust than I had thought. I was pleasantly surprised. However, it's nowhere near the build quality of the 09. Which is built like a tank.

Now I'm strictly bitstreaming from the 83. I use my MCD500 for SACD playback. So all I really need from the Oppo is a transport. The beefy analog section of the 09 for me, is going unused.

How is the Oppo working out for you?????

You can add me to the happy Oppo 83 crowd. Very impressive unit for the money. Video quality is superb and is a bit better than PS3 and the Pio Elite units I have on blu ray and seems to be quite a bit better on standard definition DVDs.

It comes with a nice remote, a carrying case and I was surprised that it even came with an HDMI cable which of course I swapped for a higher end HDMI I already had. Also included were video and audio calibration DVDs for adjusting your TV and audio system. The excellent Spears and Munsil calibration DVD came in handy as I went through all the tests and tweaked my Pio Elite Pro HDTV set to perfection.

Oppo and Pio Elite Kuro set together produced eye popping images on blu ray DVDs and even some standard def DVDs. Pure eye candy!
1080P content had spectacular video quality. The VRS video processor by Anchor Bay is very impressive.

I like that the Oppo provides a network input so it can be updated through your network/wireless. Borrowing my wireless from the MS300 to update the unit yielded no firmware/software updates so the unit is current.

Congrats on the Oppo BDP-83 purchase!!!

I purchased my Oppo BDP-83 in June and love it!
Three Finite Elemente/Universal Ceraball feet under player.
Upgraded power cord to Black Sands Violet Z2.

I have an older non-HDMI AV receiver so I am using Analog out and Belkin PureAV PCOCC RCA Cables(3 pair) into Denon AVR-3803 Receiver.
Also Belkin PureAV HDMI to HDMI Cable to Sony KDL-46Z4100 LCD HDTV.
