Interestingly enough though Esoteric D1X docs say it will play MQA files and MQA CDs once firmware updates and certification are complete. Absolute Sound also mentions this. Kind of makes you wonder if there is a Grandioso N1X in the future... Their Japan site also has a high level press release from mid 2018 saying the N05 and N03T have an update download that lets them play back MQA....whether that allows unfold or not remains to be determined. There are many MQA CD in Japan.
N-01 and N-05 perform Full MQA decoding to analog output, from network input and a direct connected USB storage device (only). N-03T does MQA Core decoding (first unfold) up to 88.2/96kHz to digital output.

You know your right Qobuz and Amazon’s announcement this week may have made MQA just a niche flash in the pan like another surround sound codec, time will tell.

I agree that MQA may turn out to be yet another attempt from an industry littered with fleeting file formats marketed as the next best thing since sliced bread (turned out to be a good thing for some purposes). Having read the MQA patent and listened to quite a few supposedly high-resolution MQA files both streamed and on MQA CDs, I do not think they sound as good as the best lossless audio file formats. But hey, maybe my ears are aging!
