Mieczysław Weinberg - Symphony No. 21 & Polish Tunes
Siberian Symphony Orchestra, Dmitry Vasilyev
Veronika Bartenyeva, soprano

This label usually offers less well known works.
But mostly, they are really worth investigating, with good performances and sound to boot.

Weinberg is a composer I've fallen in love with. Wonderful album.

A bargain at $18.75 for 6 discs.

Stating off with disc 1 which features concerti by Dall'Abaco. Vigorous playing by the conductorless Concerto Köln. The recorded sound on this disc is natural but I wished It had more bite.
Now playing disc 3, Mannheim: The Golden Age. Superb music captured in an excellent recording. This one disc, so far, makes the whole set worth acquiring.

Beethoven: The Beethoven Symphonies Live from The Edinburgh Festival
Disc 1 of 5, Symphonies 1 & 2
Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Sir Charles Mackerras conducting
Hyperion (2007)

Is it possible to have too many versions of Beethoven’s symphonies? I just got this set and it’s very good so far. The performance on this first disc is lively and engaging, and the sound very good. It’s a lively recording, with plenty of hall ambience, and only enough audience noise between movements to remind you it’s live and provide a sense of being there.

Excellent, Tony. I've heard good things about this cycle (and like you I'm a big fan of Beethoven and own several symphony sets).

$24 from Presto, Carlos - hard to go wrong at that price.
