Default Going SET

I've been thinking about setting up a little tube based system and got to listen to a SET amp. It was paired with a pair of higher end JBL synthesis speakers.

Sweet doesn't even start to describe the sound. Fell in love with it right there. We then paired it up with some SF Olympica IIs and I still loved it.

I ended up buying a Triode corp TRV-P845SE 845 single ended stereo power amplifier. Should arrive soon. Ill pair it with my Futuras and swap between that and my MC501 s. Likely use the tube amp for vinyl and late night listening. Can't wait.

On a side note, those JBL speakers are incredible, I would have no problem putting them in my system.

Congratulations on the SET amplifier. You will have some impressive amplifiers to swap between.

Once I made the switch to SET there was no turning back.

I actually wound up selling my previous amp's as I just never used them anymore

What is the power rating on your new amp?

20 W per channel at 8 ohm.

Yeah, I'd never heard music played back like this before. So smooth and relaxing. I'm sure it will be nice for late night listening. The nice thing is, when I want to rock it out or go with home theater, I'll go with the Mc amps.

Ahhhh set amps.... Since I bought my Viva Solista.... There is no other amp I like... They all sound less transparent and lacking with details and voices....

I even exchanged my ARC Amp for two set 845 monos.... (Golden tube audio se-845)

They are sonic bliss!

Congrats! SET's are pretty amazing. I have a pair of Cary 805 AE's and love them. The Futura's are a great speaker, but I'm not quite sure that 20W will cut it. Anyway, I'd love to hear your impressions.

Thanks. I heard the same amp power the JBLs and the Olympica IIs with no issues. The salesman also said they had it hooked up to a pair of B&W 802s and drove those with no problem. It seems to have more power than stated.

Congratulations. SET all the way over here. We all have different tastes, but Push-pull has no pull for me.

I also owned the SF Futura's. Great speaker but to truly get the magic from a 20 watt SET you really need to try a more efficient speaker. The Futura is a 4 ohm with a wild impedance curve dipping below 4 ohms. Not ideal for a low watt SET.

Try something with at least 93 sensitivity and 8 ohms minimum. I think you will be even more impressed with your new amp imo. Many choices out there.

I'd buy those JBLs in a second
