I had my name on the Oppo site for notification if they do another production run of the 205. Yesterday, they sent out a confirmation email to see if I am still interested.

Terry.......That's good news. Although I have no need for an Oppo UDP-205 since I already have three 203's, I hope Oppo makes a big production run and satisfies all of the demand for this player. That way the Oppo scalpers trying to sell 205's for $2800 to $3200 with no warranty can just sit on their stack of players with no one interested.

The Australian distributor said with the preorders - all Oppo 205s are completely sold out.

Dan,
I don't need one either. I have both a 203 and a 205, but I think I will buy another 205 for a backup. |

My dealer gave me a very good price on a Mc theater system, MC 207, MX 122, and the MVP 901 (includes the $5500 from Mc and a generous discount), but I cannot pull the trigger on the combination. The MVP 901 is just a Blu-ray player, and, to me, a step backward in technology. Fortunately, the email from Oppo came as I was pondering the Mc deal.

For video performance the upcoming Panasonic 9000 will probably be the successor however it won't play SACD or DVD-A. For those formats will there actually be any manufacturers' players left that support both formats going forward?

The best hope I see would be if Yamaha replaces their BD-A1060 player with a 4K Ultra HD player, like Oppo did with the 205.
The Yamaha BD-A1060 only upscales to 4K, but plays SACD/DVDA, and has balanced outputs.

Will the 203 and 205 be upgradable to HDR10+? If not it's time to move on if you're interested in the latest and greatest.
