I would get the 111 for the front end, I should have one shortly.

Masterlu,
Let us have your views on it when you get it. I was thinking of getting the 111 and the 911 monos but the stunning looks of the 808 got the better of me. It is also more flexible with the 808 in the system. My next target is the 111.

Happy to see you here as well Geshi,

I can't wait until you get your gear. I'd love to know how you like the 808 after it settles in. The 111, by all accounts, should be a winner. I think they are on track to start shipping very soon.

Joe,
I'm sure you know how torturous the waiting can be. The next two weeks (when I expect to get the amps) certainly feel like forever!

the combo 808 mk5 with 069's, I think is a combo sonically second to none.

Hello Geshi, and welcome!

If you have ordered the 808, it doesn't make much sense to me to then buy a 111 as well. Probably half the cost of the 111 will be for the preamp section. I think Burmester have invested a lot in developing this music server, and I would expect them to increase product offerings in this area, including a server without preamp function.

In the past, I have felt that Burmester's digital side is not as good as their amplifier designs, although I have not heard their reference level players. But I believe they have been working on new circuits. The 111 should start appearing shortly, and it will be interesting to see how good the DAC section is.

Your 808 and 911 mono set up will be fantastic, so I would not rush but spend time to find the right source that will do them justice

Hi Glisse,

sorry, but I'm feeling totally disappointed with bolded affirmation!!

The Burmester digital source was always considered a worldwide reference since the International Benchmarks affirmed that are the unique CD players that have the sound characteristics, usually familiar only from the extreme analogue records, e.g. combo 969/970, 979/980; the 001's was still now considered one of the best single box cd player (now is the 089's).

This is certainly my personal opinion after listened DCS, Naim, Spectral, Zanden, Mark Levinson , Mcintosh, Metronome, Audio Note, Cec, Accuphase etc.

Hi Rocco,

Don't be disappointed, as I am only referring to their DACs, not their players. I only use my Accuphase player every few weeks or so when I want to have a quick listen to a CD before I rip it. To me, if I want to go through the drama of listening to a single disc, I would prefer to listen to vinyl. So expensive CD players are to me like a dinosaur.

I am sure you are right that their optical disk players are superb, and I don't feel upset that they may be better than my Accuphase

I was referring to their DAC modules (the one in my 088) and stand alone DACs (113) for streaming. And I don't think they sound as good as Weiss and Berkeley Design digital products. In fact, the low priced Metrum Octave sounded better to me. I understand that Burmester have added some digital engineers to their team, so maybe their new products will be more to my liking. And as you said, these are just individual tastes. Like you preferring Nordost cables rather than Burmester.

And I do love their amplifiers, including the AC filter versions, very much

Glisse,
I do agree with you that I should not rush into buying the 111. If Burmester can produce a 111 minus the inbuilt preamp, it will be perfect for me.

Hi Glisse, of course my previous post was referring to the belt drive cd players, particularly the ones mentioned above, including the outstanding 069's. Up to now I had no chance to listen the version of 088's with internal dac module or the 113's.
