>> I am sure the Giya's will sound great with most amps.<<<

Very true and I'm most interested in your thoughts once you take delivery so please do post your comments. I too plan on ordering either G1s or 2s (more likely) once I figure out if I'm staying in this house or moving to another with perhaps a larger listening room. I have a pair of evo 600e's too and I have no plans on switching them out as I heard the 2s on much less power and it was one of the handful of most impressive listening sessions I've had the pleasure of enjoying. They're not particularly difficult speakers to drive but headroom is always nice. I presume those amps would drive either speaker with ease.

Lee3, that is how I fell in love with them too
I also think the Krells will do very nicely!

Good input. I will definitely document my experiences and thoughts once they arrive.

Lee3 - Since you have the 600e's... Have you had a chance to compare your 600e's to the Krell EVO 1's? Maybe I should post this in the Krell section but I wanted to maintain the flow here. I have an opportunity to make a swap (along with some cash) to get the EVO 1's but I have not been able to demo them. In theory they are supposed to be much better even with less power but like you said, the G2's don't need a ton to drive them. Then the dilemma is if the D'Agastino's are better than EVO 1's...

If you have any input on the EVO 600e vs EVO 1's that would be great.

Reaper:

I do not have any color on that comparison. I believe they have discontinued the evo 1 & 2. I know they have in the case of the latter as I spoke with Bill McKiegan at Krell when i was looking to upgrade some of my system a few months ago. In short, I replaced an old pair of fpb 750mcx monos with the 600s and then swapped out a kct preamp for a phantom preamp. Bill's comment to me was that the phantom and evo 2 are virtually indistinguishable sonically so they stopped manufacturing the 2 despite the fact that it remains on their site. I believe the same is true of the 1 but don't quote me on that.

I couldn't be happier with my recent upgrades. I have heard the evo 1 & 2 together and the sound was amazing but that was a few years ago now and it was for pleasure as opposed to any serious demoing in my system. I don't know about you but I'm pushing 40 now and boxing up those 750s and unpacking the 600s was anything but fun. If in your shoes, I'd sit tight with the amps and focus on getting the speakers dialed in and seeing how the chips fall. I suspect you'll be quite happy but if you're not, at least you'll be armed with the knowledge of what is bothering you and then play mad scientist trying to rectify it with other components.

I heard other speakers on the same system I heard the G2s and I was not impressed. Once the g2s were added, it was a valhalla like moment. I didn't know a damn thing about the g2s at that point but follow up reading regarding their reviews seemed to confirm my personal impressions.

Personally, I believe you (we) have overkill for those speakers but only time will tell in that regard. Usually I can hear strengths and weaknesses with a speaker that play to certain types of music better than others which is part of the reason we spend so much on the front end to mitigate those weaknesses. My takeaway (which could well be wrong) from that session is the Giyas might let you get away with a lot less on the front end and deliver truly great music in all forms. It's not going to hurt that you have those amps but I honestly don't believe it's as necessary with those speakers as it is with many alternatives. So have fun and do let us know your thoughts after you've enjoyed them for a while. Good luck

Lee3-

Thanks for your detailed thoughts. I appreciate your time.

I am familiar that the EVO 1 & 2 have been discontinued. I am running the EVO 707 for my Pre/Pro which is also supposed to be very close to EVO 2 sonically. I upgraded from the EVO 202 and it was definitely a big jump. I also upgraded from the EVO 402e stereo amp to the EVO 600 Mono's which was another very nice jump. I however do not have the 600e version at this point. So just plain EVO 600's. For the price of the "e" upgrade I could swap my 600's for the EVO 1's and therefore I have not made that investment.

I am familiar with the Phantom line but have not had a chance to demo them so I have no reference at this point. I suspect they would perform on-par with EVO 707.

I love the EVO 600's, much more "musical" than previous Krells so it is not a burning platform for me. If I am missing anything then I am not aware but I am certainly open-minded enough to demo other products and maybe find something that I like better. The trick with this hobby is of course minimizing that learning curve...

Interesting observation on the Giya's and leveling the front-end playing field. I smell a Business Case for Vivid Audio...

Thanks again for your insight. Hopefully I can start contributing real-world observations in the near future.

Doug-

Well its looks like your about 2 Hours away so once I get things up and running we could probably work something out. Happy to take in local enthusiasts and get candid input/advice on setup and sound.

Latest delivery date on G2's is around mid June.

Mike
