Thanks Rocco, it was probably your post I recall reading. That's an impressive array of cables you have tried!

Joost, since you're in the Netherlands, I think you should try some Van den Hul Super Novas and their new 3T range.

In fact, I find them a little too soft in the system I am referring to in this thread.

There are some ordinary silver designs around, but I think the brightness you refer to is often caused by faults with geometry, or perhaps not using enough wire (silver is much more expensive than copper, so the temptation is to use very thin gauge wire). Next time you are looking at cables, I would suggest not excluding them based on use of silver
++1 Happy with silver coated designs. I have had most success with Dali's German outsourced wire which is a twisted 3 mm2 silver-plated OFC conductors with 37 individual 0.32 mm strands and Teflon insulation. The last OCC wire I tried was the Furutech alpha S-25. To me, larger gauge individual strands sound better than more smaller gauge strands which make up the AWG twist.

I am also little biased towards the undressed Dali wire as my Dali Grands use this specification internally too.

Anatta, thanks for the recommendation, however I am not really up for trying out a bunch of different brands and generally spending too much time on this. Based on my first impressions of Nordost Frey vs Burmester silver interconnects the Burmesters seem to be a step above, impressions so far are less harshness and more lower scale weight and better integration of the bass into the whole. If this turns out to be my final conclusion (need to spend more time on this) then I will switch out the Frey speaker cables with Burmester silver and call it a day.

Joost...one quick suggestion. All Rockport speakers are internally wired with Transparent wiring and I know that Andy Payor uses Transpareent speaker cables (not sure about the ICs) in his system. It may be worth your while to seek out Transparent just to compare it to the Burmester wire. It may make sense to try all Burmester vs. all Transparent and also Burmester ICs and Transparent SC as well. Also, on the Nordost side, they have come out with Series 2 in the Norse line (Heimdall, Norse, Tyr) which are supposed to be a huge step up from the original Norse series. I am going to check out the Heimdall Series 2 to compare to my original Heimdalls, so you may want to check out Frey or Tyr Series 2 to compare to the Burmester and/or Transparent cabling. Good luck.

Cyril, thanks for that, all good points. Besides Burmester, Transparent would be the other logical choice for my system. I will see if I can get my hands on some transparent cabling and then also the latest edition Tyr/Valhalla which would be a fairer comparison on the Nordost side.

I spoke with Robb today, he mentioned that the big Burmester Rig at the NY Show was cabled with all Platinum Eclipse from Wireworld.

He commented how outstanding it sounded with terrific synergy.
