Default Momentum Monoblock Upgrade

Dan D'Agostino has developed an upgrade for M300 mono block amplifiers. The upgrade replaces some of the internal circuit cards with improved versions and increases the power to 400W/8 Ohms. The M300 was already the best amplifier I've every had in my system. Can't wait to see what this improvement will do. Advertised price for the upgrade is $15K. The new M400 mono block list price is $65K per pair.

Will be shipping my set back to Dan after the holidays in January. Report to follow.

Packed up the Momentums for the trip back to the plant for their upgrade. Somehow they seem to have gotten much heavier since I last moved them. I think my time for amplifier upgrades is limited.

I will miss these babies during the 3-4 weeks it will take to get them back. I have no problem buying a modification without any data other than the 20+ years of experience I have with Krell/D'Agostino products.

Cincy.......I will be waiting to read your impressions once the amplifiers are returned to you. That's a serious leap of faith upgrading your current Momentum M300 amplifiers to Momentum M400 status. That performance bump doesn't come cheap at $15,000 for the pair.

Sounds like a nice upgrade to an already nice amp.

I would also be interested to hear the difference. $15,000 is allot of money for what is listed as the upgrade. Please let us know what you observe when they are returned. Tks.

After what seemed like years (three months), I received my M400 upgrade this past week and got a few good hours on them yesterday. Bottom line up front: Definitely worth the upgrade price for me at least. There were two improvements I noticed immediately - wider soundstage and more contrast between a sound (voice, instrument, percussion) and the background. These amps were already to best I've ever had in my system. I'm even more impressed with Dan D now if that is possible.

I deliberately played some less than stellar files to see how the amps would do with different levels of source material. My system is optimized for detail and even on poorly miked or mastered files I am very familiar with I heard more low level sound in the background on all files without exception. There was not enough improvement to move these files into my Favorites List but they do show what the amps are capable of doing.

It's a great time to be alive for us audiophiles. So many choices at so many price points. There is something for everyone. For me, these amps are the bee's knees.

Congrats on the upgrade Cincy! I bet those amps driving your Raidho speakers makes an exceptionally transparent combination.

Cincy.......Happy to hear you are back in business and pleased with the results of the upgrade. Is there any noticeable change in the appearance of the amplifiers, like new badging or anything else?

Congrats Cincy, the momentum monos are one of the only things in my system that I would really want to upgrade to. They are freaking amazing.

The meter of course now tops out at 400w. The top of the front panel has a new piece of aluminum that blends nicely. No other changes that I can notice.
