Those Hansens are great speakers. I'll bet it sounds awesome. Were you as surprised as I was at the addition of the 2nd amp? I wasn't expecting that big of a jump, considering how good the 911 was already!

Jeff...I heard the Burmester Top Line setup in Germany this weekend (089 CD player, 088 pre, a pair of 911 mkIIIs driving B-80s and I was mighty impressed. Really liked the sound...neutral across the frequency spectrum yet emotionally engaging. and very authoritative and dynamic. a big thumbs up

Hi, John.

Congratulations for your superb system.

With a mono-pair of 911's you've an incredible airy and refined sound.

The resolution is astonished and the soundstage is larger, with every detail of placement and spatial relation between instruments refined to almost shocking effect. Bass frequencies are appreciably deeper, superbly controlled and defined with tremendous spatial volume and exactitude of pitch. The midrange, especially voices, had added body and verisimilitude. Surely you achieved a well-balanced and really excellent-sounding system, where now something is beyond . With 911's monos the transients are very fast and every note of every kind of music sounded more natural in terms of attack, decay and harmonic structure. They allowed whatever music played to arrive at the loudspeakers more continuously and expand into the room with a much higher sense of reality. With the preamp Burmester 808 MK5 the aforementioned sound parameters improve dramatically and you'll be more close to the "true music".

Kind regards.

Rocco are you sure your not a salesman for Burmester. Well I guess my next purchase will have to be the 808MK5. I wonder what the 089 sounds like as a pre-amp compared to the 808 probably not even close.

There is someone here selling a 089 and he is very happy with the unit.

I've been listening to the 089 for some time now, and while it isn't an 808, it's still very good. And a lot less money....

What's the difference in sound compared to the 808?

John

I did see that. I'm not sure if I want to go back to having a cd player. I really enjoy the convenience of the mac mini with the ipad.
