Barr,

I concur with you on the matching of the 300b tubes with the orangutans. I don't have any experience with the Shindo version, but I do know the 300b tube sounds sublime with the O96s. Do you have western electrics in yours or another brand?

Fwiw, I'd love to hear the shindos or the Wavac one day. For now, I'll enjoy my sophia electric 300bs.

Jonathan -

I have the mighty Western Electric 300B tubes in mine. And correction, the proper model identifier is Shindo Lafon 300B Ltd. If you ever end up out this far West you are more than welcome to have a listen.

Barr,

I would love to!

Well, after recently watching some vintage NOS - possibly 40's or 50's - WE 300B's go for over 10K a pair, I can tell you that the price of those Lafons seems all the more reasonable to me these days. And while I suspect Shindo's WE's are the more recent variety, either late 80's or possibly the 2000's, they are probably pretty darn close to the famed early productions!

Drop me a line and keep me updated. I'd love to hear about your adventures. You should also check out my "sight"... Lots going on.

I have both a Montille and a Cortese. The latter sounds more delicious to me, you can probably Google for my reviews, but from the first hour of playing, the Cortese exceeded all my expectations for a delicious sounding amp. I have paired it with a Monbrison preamp and a pair of Tannoy Sandringhams (my room is too small for the Kensingtons) and I've been in audio heaven and off the audio treadmill since then.

I haven't touched, tweaked or tested anything else since I had this combo in place. Never thought I'd say this, but I think I am done.

And I can vouch for the seller :-). I am the happy owner of his Tannoy Sandringhams.

I figured I would post these pics here for you guys. I went to Devore's factory about 1.5 years ago and got to hear these speakers in his listening room.
