Musings on my love for music...
Other than my family and close friends, nothing has been there more for me in my life than music. Music has both inspired me and saved me, sometimes at the same time, throughout my 54 years on this earth. I truly appreciate and am in constant awe of the unbelievable art than some of my favorite musicians have created.
The Beatles - No other music has had a bigger impact on my life than the Beatles' music. I can honestly say that I almost always have a smile on my face when I'm listening to their incredible combination of personality, creativity, energy and quality. Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Steve Earle, Steve Forbert - The characters these artists have created and write about in their songs are people that I've never met and yet I know them as well as my good friends. Modern day Rockwell's if you will with guitars and microphone's in lieu of paint brushes. I was listening to Bruce's song "Paradise" from The Rising record this morning and I couldn't believe the emotion the guy can ring out of lyrics. Oh how do I wish I could write lyrics like Paul Westerberg, Ryan Adams and Jason Isbell and create sonic landscapes the way that Radiohead does. I can listen to the musical honesty of artists like Aretha Franklin, Neil Young and Carlos Santana all day! It seems to jump out of my speakers! When you hear Aretha sing "Natural Woman", feel the gritty drive of Neil's "Like A Hurricane" or hear Santana's guitar tone on Abraxas, I really don't know if it gets any purer? Anyway....I felt so inspired to share my love of music this morning, which for me, is what our crazy hobby is supposed to be about. What music inspires you all? Cheers, Tim aka Beatlebum |

I often enjoy self labeling as one of the greatest appreciates of music on the planet.
Sounds like you are as well. Many love music, few are consumed by it. Is it a gift or addiction? A gift to me, an addiction to an observer. |

I'm game for anything, except skiffle, and the vast majority, but not all, of hip hop, rap and todays R n' B.

Great topic. For myself, it is about the rhythm and the pulse. Rhythm, dance, and music are cross-cultural and most likely runs deep in the evolution of the human condition. Evolutionarily, small bands (50 to 150 compatriots) of hunter-foragers utilized rhythm, dance, and music to strengthen the social cohesion of the band. Eventually rhythm, dance, and music became a unique “rites of passage” to that particular band and was culturally transmitted to future generations.
An excellent article on this topic below... https://www.frontiersin.org/articles...016.00485/full frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2016.00485/full My other hobby to express rhythm and pulse... Regards
