Default Violectric V281

I know we have at least a few members with Violectric Audio head amps. Your input would be appreciated as I am looking to add a V281 to my growing collection of all headphone related gear.

I listened to it at CanJam NYC and I was very disappointed. I had high hopes for it but it just wasn't my cup of tea at all.

If you are looking to collect headphone amps, some amps I highly recommend are the Woo Audio WA22, Woo Audio WA6-SE, Naim DAC-V1, Schiit Lyr 2, HeadAmp GS-X MkII, Cavalli Liquid Gold, and Audeze The King.

What was the source/reason of disappointment? I like tubes as well but a great solid state head amp can be just as enjoyable. The Violectric V281 is highly regarded in the headphone community.

Ya, I really don't get why it is highly regarded in the headphone community. I had lusted after it for years and was super excited to finally get to demo it only to be let down. To my ears, it sounded dull, boring, uninvolving, two-dimensional, lacking in detail, and very much lacking in bass. Some amps have a magical ability to make music sound real. This amp didn't even remotely have that ability. I spent a considerable amount of time with it really wanting to like it but I just couldn't. That's just my brutally honest opinion. Your ears may differ.

That bad huh? Almost sounds like it was broken.

It is funny you should say that because there was one exhibitor who couldn't even get his amp to work. I felt bad for the guy but it was definitely a deal breaker...lol.

Violectric USA offers 5 years warranty on their products and a 2 week at home trial. The product is made in Germany by very passionate group of engineers. I would not hesitate to explore this serious headphone amp that is highly regarded in the audiophile community and shares rack spaces with other amps from all the well regarded brands. After having discussed this particular amp with those who actually own them, it comes highly recommended.

If they are willing to give you a 2 week home trial then I say go for it and judge for yourself with your own ears. You may love it! I simply didn't...at all.

I should clarify that I don't doubt they are very reliable. The exhibitor that I mention was a different company just in case there was any misunderstanding when I wrote that.
