That's a shame. The Liquid Gold is one of the best solid state headphone amps I have ever heard. I must say it is a messed up move on his part not honoring the warranties. Perhaps I am misunderstanding something but he has enough time to continue to make money on Massdrop designs but not enough time to honor the warranties on amps that some people paid as much as $6000 for? That's not cool...

I suspect that he may have found someone to commercialize some of his lower cost designs. He may have sold the rights, who knows?

The reality is that the market for a $6000 headphone amp is vanishingly small.

I don't know Cavelli or their products. But business succession is a big problem for a lot of small businesses.
He makes it clear that his grandkids are more important than his customers. I'm 100% ok with that - he's on the right track!

That's the risk of dealing with a small manufacturer with no history.

Like you say, the market for high priced headphone amps is vanishingly small. Assuming his amps are fairly reliable, how much time could it possible take for him to service the occasional amp under warranty? I hope his customers file a class action lawsuit against him and win.

Even if he doesn't want to do the warranty repairs himself, he could pay for the occasional warranty repairs out of his own pocket because that is the right thing to do.

He sold the rights to the lower priced amps to Massdrop, if memory serves.

And you're right, he should have stood by his products from a warranty perspective. Treating customers that way is just not the way to do business.

I think the whole grandkid thing is a poor excuse. There is no reason why he still can't devote his retirement to his grandkids while also doing the right thing. I hope he isn't teaching these sorts of ethics to his grandkids. Frankly, I have lost all respect for the guy.

I think they offered a lifetime warranty, which is a silly thing to do for a small business like this in the first place. He never should have done that without setting up some sort of long-term financial vehicle to be able to support it for the long haul, even if he went out of business. What a shame to end on that note.
