Default Sooloos Setup

After spending some time with a MC200 and the Sooloos iPad app, I am upgrading to a Control10 and Twinstore. Thank you to everyone that has posted in this forum, your insight has helped and is very much appreciated.

The Twinstore has stock 1TB drives with ~2000 CDs loaded; the MC200 has ~500 CDs loaded. The plan is to increase the capacity of the Twinstore to 2TB, and move the contents of the MC200 onto the Twinstore.

The process that I am following to make this transition and upgrade the Twinstore is:

1) backup the MC200 onto my NAS
2) power off the MC200

3) power on the Control10 and Twinstore
4) backup the Twinstore onto my NAS

5) power off the Twinstore
6) replace the 1TB drives with Western Digital 2TB Enterprise drives
7) power on the Twinstore

8) restore the Twinstore backup
9) restore the MC200 backup

10) backup the Twinstore onto a 2TB drive for offsite storage

I am currently at step 4, finishing the backup of the Twinstore and have a few questions:

Backup Speed - I have a Gigabit ethernet connection between my computer, network switch, Twinstore, and NAS. It is taking about 1 minute per album to backup. The switch is showing that all of the connections are at 1Gbps, but the computer is showing that the network is less than 25% utilized. Is this normal?

Disk Initialization - When I install the new 2TB drives, does the Twinstore initialize them automatically?

Restore - When I get to restoring from two sets of backup files, will the restore wizard merge the 2000 + 500 CDs onto the Twinstore?

I am sure I will have more questions as I work through this, as there is a lot of work to do to organize a Sooloos library. Based on what I have seen from other users, it is well worth the effort.

-Kevin.

If you want to have all of your music on the Twinstore, be sure to download the Meridian Sooloos Configuration application (Windows only) from the Meridian website. It will allow you to turn off the MC200 as a storage device so that when you restore the backup to the Twinstore and when you subsequently add any albums, they will only be put on the Twinstore.

Thanks. I was looking at Control:PC but didn't see any options for storage.

The backup finished, so I have swapped out the hard drives. A very simple process. When turning back on the Twinstore, I am hearing a repeating series of (4?) quick beeps. Hopefully this means they are formatting.

After waiting 24 hours without any changes to the pattern of repeating beeps, I decided to power down the Twinstore and re-install the drives.

During power up, the beeps changed to 1 every few seconds. After about 15 minutes I checked again, and the beeps had stopped.
Verifying the [home][information], I now have:
Total Storage = 1969 GB
Free Storage = 1958 GB

Time to start the restore!

Yes, this is normal, my backups take about the same time.

It looks like you have completed this. It can take a long time for the Twinstore to format the new drives, this is normal.

The 2 backups will merge into one collection on the Twinstore. You may get a few artists listed twice, just do a "find duplicate artists" on the Control PC settings section when done to fix this.
