Bill - ARC has done a great job with the new SE line and upgrades. Clearly, a huge step forward.

Bill, stop raving. You are really getting me to want the SE

I listened to the original ref2 a while back and it was superb, except I felt it did not quite have enough bass weight, speed and slam to match it's massive 3d soundstage and eerie upper frequencies. It would seem the SE has that now.

I can't say whether others would do more, but the Ref 2 SE has the most bass weight of any phono stage I've ever had connected to my system, including the Parasound JC3, which had more bass heft than my PH5.

Bill,
Have you heard the Vitus phono stage by any chance? I hear that one is quite amazing, and also quite amazingly expensive at $60K!

Ha! I wish, Shane!

I believe some magazine editors have them as their reference, though.

I just spent the evening spinning vinyl, and I must say I absolutely love the EAR 324 that I was fortunate enough to have purchased from Serge.

I'm done as far as phono stages are concerned, and with respect to my system overall, off the merry-go-round....save perhaps for a Shunyata Zitron PC or maybe a Triton power distributor. But basically, I'm "there"...

Famous last words from an audiophile Stephen.

Awesome that you are enjoying the 324 so much. Always good to have a tube and SS phono stage at your musical disposal.

So no stereo ART or used ET5 / GAT in your future?

Cheers

I dunno, Shane...I've thought about an ET5, but I'd have to sell my CT-5 first. I was getting ready to list it here for sale, but I popped it in the system the other night just to help keep the caps burned in, and it sounds awfully good.

I don't think I'd ever part with my Premier 17, though...it would be like parting with a Leica rangefinder. Even if I upgraded preamps at some point time, I'd likely still keep it for use in a second system, perhaps.

Regarding amps, the LP70 is just perfect for my small space.
