Alexander Nevsky Slatkin.jpg
24/96 CDAD rip of a 1978 Joanna Nickerenz/Marc Aubort minimally-miked recording effort for Vox. The Nevsky is an excellent performance in superb sonics.

Dark, angsty but reasonably melodic music. Well played and recorded.

Mind-blowing virtuosity and musicianship. Great sound, too.

Not the best SQ but absolutely masterful performances by Rudolph Serkin and Bernstein's NYPO: Sony 'Royal Edition' CD remixed/remasters of 1962/64 recordings of Beethoven Piano Concertos 3 & 5.
The Emperor is my favorite piano concerto, and I've heard quite a few recordings of this piece over the years, but Serkin's performance with the NYPO is my favorite. The No. 3 pairing here is also excellent. These remixed/remasters are a big step up over the originals and are quite listenable on my rig. |
